know if I have colon cancer? What are the initial symptoms? I am 48 and worried
Unfortunately, there is no one specific sign or symptom that
signifies colon cancer. Moreover, in some cases one may have vague symptoms.
There is no one initial symptom of colon cancer. However, the majority of
people may complain of tiny amount of blood in the stools. The stools may
appear tinged with drops of blood or the stools may appear dark or black. Other
symptoms may include change in bowel habits, constipation, weight loss,
fatigue, general malaise and vague abdominal cramps.
Colon cancer is rare in individual under the age of 50.
Today, screening colonoscopy has been recommended starting at the age of 50.
Individuals who have family members who have had colon cancer should undergo
colonoscopy at an earlier age. Besides colonoscopy, one may even undergo a
barium enema or a video capsule endoscopy.
